The international airport of Barcelona “El Prat” is located in the city El Prat de Llobregat, in the province of Barcelona, Spain to 15 kilometers southwest of the center of the city of Barcelona and 3 kilometers from the port of Barcelona, between the municipalities of El Prat de Llobregat, Viladecans and Sant Boi de Llobregat.
It has two passenger terminals (T1 and T2), a corporate terminal and an air cargo center. It is the first airport in extension and traffic in Catalonia and the second airport with the highest traffic in Spain behind the Madrid-Adolfo Suarez Airport. In the year 2002 it managed to be placed in the third position of the European ranking and in the first of Spain in terms of passengers of direct flights.
The airport was officially known until June 6, 2011 as Barcelona Airport, but after the request of the City Council of El Prat de Llobregat in 2008 to change the name of the infrastructure, it was studied the possible name change that has been made effective on June 18, 2011 in the official state bulletin.
